add to that: sustainable development

Still cooking the Alexander idea - I like that he's 'slightly out'. He's something of a nut I believe from seeing dialog betw him and other intellectuals (eg Eisenman), but as you say he is interesting. My aim might be to try to figure out in what ways his ideas would in fact be relevant, esp in light of the phenomenon of the 'off the grid'/'neo-hippy' communities on the one hand, and commercial developer/'new urbanism' on the other. On a 3d hand there's the reality of 'developing economies' such as in Africa, etc (the koolhaas work on lagos is pretty interesting on that). I'm interested in the notion of a '3d worldization' within established economies, eg what might happen to the poorest parts of US cities as the economy continues to bifurcate toward extremes of rich and poor.

I know...much too broad. Need coaching to somehow organize all this...[maybe I should just back off and do a bio of some 19th century north Carolina architect. Sounds boring, but maybe easier.]

is Lagos an incubating 'modern post-industrial' condition?

"...a modern post-industrial version of the age-old pre-industrial and traditional processes which shaped the world's most beautiful towns and bui9ldings for thousands of years"

c alexander, introduction to 'oregon experiment'

modern post-industrial = what would that mean
